Impress the In-Laws
This finds the band in fine form and delivering a studio-like performance at the Louisville radio station WFPK Live Lunch series. Although most of the songs have a succinct quality to them, keeping things tight and worthy of a radio audience, they still translate the zest for moment seeking abandonment and boundary pushing. One only has to listen to the opening number, "Go For Gin", and the closer, "Blind" to be convinced that the band feels more at home when things start getting a little loose and opening up.
This is also one of those pivotal points in time when the band is supporting a second album while also writing songs for their third album that was released in 2011. The listener gets a glimpse of the past (1st album material), present (2nd album) and future (3rd album) with this performance and the payoff is intoxicating. This is the classic Stonewheel performance of an exceptional ride through all things far and in-between with a final push at the end that leaves you wanting more.
We were able to obtain a multi-track recording of this performance from WFPK after the show and our guitar player and studio engineer resident, Chris Greenwell, was able to take it back for a final mix and blend to make everything just exactly perfect. This makes the sound quality fantastic and super crispy. For this alone, it garners the 5-star rating. But adding to the superb sound quality are several excellent renditions of Stonewheel classics, and yet to be classics, and you can easily see why this fits in with a top-tier rating.
